Disappointing Speakers
Pros
They are cheap
Cons
And they sound like it!
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
I recommend that you save the money and use your computer speakers if all you can afford is these.
I bought these speakers on the recommendation of the clerk at CompUSA (big mistake, they rarely know anything and today was no exception). I was looking for a replacement speaker for my Altec Lansing ATP3's, which have a subwoofer. One of my speakers had the cord neatly snipped by my rabbit, and I had hoped to find a speaker that would work with the subwoofer. I was assured that these would.
Well. They dont. They were never designed to plug into a subwoofer, they have no cable/jack for one. Obviously, this guy never had them out of the box.
They also sound like crap. The built in speakers on my iMac G5 sound just as good or maybe even a bit better. There is no tweeter and no midrange, just one big ol paper cone. I thought they stopped making speakers like this when 8-tracks went out of vogue. I asked the salesman about that too--and he said they were equivalent to what I had--um, no.
Although I loved the ATP3's, these are total junk. Very disappointed and am not only returning these but will buy another brand entirely now. Clearly, Altec has declined in quality since I bought the ATP3's.
