The Bottom Line:
This is a great telescope that you can use on planets and deep sky objects. It will keep you busy for your whole life.
I researched what telescope I wanted for over 9 months and when it came time to getting one I decided on this telescope for a number of reasons.
1) A Reflector will give you the biggest aperture for your dollar. I wanted to be able to see deep sky objects so a large aperture was necessary. While a 6" is not as large as many reflectors sold now days (the 8" seems to be the first scope of choice) the 6" is just over 30 lbs, which makes it much more portable than the 40 lbs. 8".
2) Dobsonian mount - again buy purchasing a dobsonian mount as opposed to a equatorial or alt-az mount you get more scope for your $, as more $ is paying for the optics than the mount. Additionally the dob mount is very inutitive and easy to use. Very user friendly.
3) This scope has a 1200mm focal length which means that you get good magnification from the optics.
This scope performs well on Deep Sky objects like Galaxies and Nebulas, as well as on planets such as Jupiter (I've seen cloud bands without a filter), Saturn (wow), and Mars (during opposition I was able to make out mountain ranges and plains).
Over all a great telescope, especially for the money. You wont find this one in stores, only through the web or mail order. Google "Hardin" and "Dob" to find a distributor. I have a few that I like, but don't want to bias any one else.
This scope will perform just as well as the Orions, and Celestrons, for a better price, I purchased mine for $200 on sale.
On the Cons, The finder scope is a little hard to use sometimes, the cross-hairs can be hard to see in the dead of night, one of my first upgrades was a red dot style finder. Additionally to get the best performance from the mount one should add a few thin plastic washers to the center bolt between the circular mount boards. But from what I have heard this is a standard modification required to get good performance from any factory made dobsonian mount.
