Excellent netbook, decent all-round computer
Pros
Ultraportable, long battery life, bright screen, good overall
Cons
"mouse" keys on the touchpad are too stiff (hard to "click")
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I recommend this computer to anybody that wants either a netbook or a general computer. It is portable and does well with general computing
If you need a basic all-round computer, this netbook will serve you well.
The screen is VERY bright (but can be turned down easily.) The screen is also very clear, I never need to put on my terminal glasses to use this computer.
I originally wanted a bigger laptop to replace my 7 year old Dell 15" laptop. However, I was short on cash, and decided to go for a netbook. After reading a lot of reviews I got the 10" Asus EEE. I have not regretted it at all.
I got the memory upgrade to 2 GB because a lot of people recommended it (and it was only 20 dollars). I never did run it with 1 GB so I can't speak for the difference.
*** What this computer is good for
General computing such as email, internet use (chat, listening to internet radio), writing reports (up to a few pages, with no big illustrations), reading ebooks
Portable computing - this computer is light, the battery life is excellent (5-7 hrs). Also, the power supply (AC adapter) is very light and small.
This computer is also very very quiet!
*** What this computer is not suitable for
3D games such as Half-Life 2
CAD (obviously)
Finite Element Analysis
Computational fluid dynamics
... you get the picture. This computer is not suitable for, nor intended for, anything that is very computationally intensive or that requires a big screen.
*** Other comments
The built-in speakers are weak, but the soundcard itself is not bad. I use earbuds, and the sound coming out from them is quite satisfactory.
The keyboard is satisfactory for anybody already used to laptop keyboards. A lot of people comment on the location of the right SHIFT key, but in truth this is not an issue. You get used to it quickly.
