Truly All-in-one, except as a PHONE
Pros
Does nearly everything a standard computer can do, very powerful PDA with wifi capability.
Cons
Doesn't work worth a dang as a phone. It's a big bulky too.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Fun as a gadget, horrible as a phone.
This thing has all the bells and whistles, but is no good as a phone!
I moved up from my V3 RAZR for this thing. WiFi, big screen, windows mobile 5, cool! After a month of trying it out, I had to switch back. Why? It was completely horrible as a phone.
With the RAZR, to make a phone call you flip open the phone (that unlocks it), press a key to bring up the address book, navigate up or down (or punch letters to get to the entry), and hit talk. Also, hitting the talk key brings up the call history so you can easily redial frequent numbers.
On the 8525, here's what you do: press and hold the power key (to bring up the screen), dig out the stylus, hit the onscreen unlock button (and again to confirm), then press talk, click the contacts key, then drill down into the alphabet to find the entry. After you start a conversation, if you need the onscreen keypad, you must tap it first to get the screen to come up (careful what you tap!), then find the key.
I'd have to say, the onscreen keypad was the biggest annoyance, followed up by having to use the stylus for most stuff. It was just a big pain to use as a phone. Maybe with some interface tweaks (big buttons so no stylus, better navigation, etc.) it could be much more usable as a phone.
Aside from being a bad phone, yeah that 8525 is basically a computer in your pocket. Kinda cool.
