The Bottom Line:
Do not buy HK products. Their build quality disappeared sometime within the past few years.
I purchased this unit as a refurbished unit to replace a failed prior HK AVR unit. It has fabulous styling, the likes of which cannot be easily found at any price point. I had it matched with a HK DVD-22 player and a HK CD carousel. It made a great setup, driving paradigm speakers all the way around.
Until.... the DVD-22 failed. After 3 months. OK, I reasoned, it's a refurbished unit so maybe less reliable (doubt it, but that's my rationalization). So I b_)(ched and moaned so finally HK replaced the unit free of charge... So then everything was great...
Until.... The AVR failed. After 4 months. It was a critical failure. Would not even power up. So around and around I went with HK. They did cover it under the full mfgr's warranty, but I paid shipping as was out a receiver for nearly 3 months.
Since both of these units were bought to replace AVR and DVD units that both had critical failures that were $350 and $175 to replace (respectively), it really burns me that the new ones failed also.
So, as a long time HK/Infinity/JBL/RF fan (22 years and too much $$ to remember), I am permanently defecting to another brand... never to return to HK.
