LCD had to be replaced after 2 months of light use!
Pros
Good price, clear, bright picture at first, 3 year warranty.
Cons
LCD had to be replaced after 2 months of light use!
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
I would not recommend it for anyone because it died in 2 months of light use! The only consolation is that Acer has a three year warranty on its monitors.
I have the Acer X213W and having had no problems with it, decided to buy the Acer X203H as a second monitor since my CRT was giving problems.
If you compare it with the X213W, you will find faults. It's control panel buttons are on the underside of the screen - like the X213W, but unlike the X213W, they are definitely under the monitor, not visible from the front. Also, they are black, like the monitor and smaller than those of the X213W, and harder to press.
I think it has a higher contrast ratio than the X213W, but side by side they appear the same at the same resolution.
The height of the viewing area is approximately 9 5/8", whereas the X213W is over 11 1/2", so the X213W gives a better viewing experience.
I just got it today, so I have been trying out the monitor using hidden objects games and the monitor set to the "Graphics" mode. It's a lot better than my CRT was.
The specs on the system are:
Height with stand: 14.1"
Width: 19.3"
Weight: 9.3 lbs. Shipping weight - 10.8 lbs
Depth: 7" with stand
Viewable Screen: Size 20"
Viewing angle: 160 degrees (H); 160 degrees (V)
Maximum Resolution: 1600 x 900@60Hz
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Response Time: 5 ms
Brightness: 300 cd/m²
Contrast Ratio: 10,000:1
Compatibility: PC and Mac
VGA Input and DVI-D with HDCP Input
ENERGY STAR Qualified: on - 28W (typ); sleep - 0.97W (typ.); off/standby - 0.75W (typ.)
I suspect that if I hadn't had the bigger monitor first, I would have been perfectly satisfied with the X203H and I would have rated it as 5.
Update
Having had it for a few weeks now, I can say that it appears as if the corners are a tad dimmer than the rest of the picture when you view images which are dark, bright images don't appear dimmer at the corners. The Windows XP log in page text doesn't seem as sharp as the bigger Acer, but you would only notice that if you compared them side by side (both monitors are set to same resolution).
It started shimmering about 4 days ago, then vertical bars started appearing and disappearing. Tonight the bars came to stay. I turned off the monitor, changed to another computer and about 75% of the screen vertically is now black! I'm very disappointed in this Acer - problems after 2 months! I'll have to send it in for repair :-(
Acer has a three year warranty and I tried to use Fix my Acer online but kept getting an error message saying I should call in. When I called in I got an overseas help desk, but they were helpful and gave me a repair number and instructions on what to do to send in the monitor for repair in Texas. I did as instructed, 3 -4 layers of bubble wrap, not to send in in original box, 3" packing tape, etc. I got a notification to say it had been received, but there is nowhere online to check on the repair status. Acer Singapore has such a function, but not Acer USA!
I finally got back the monitor (after about 2 weeks), and they sent a note to say the LCD was replaced.
