Great "discreet" CD player
Pros
Steering Wheel mounted remote. Faceplate turns black after power turned off.
Cons
Poor scan/seek function. No control over unit when loading/unloading CD's
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
The disappearing faceplate is a great alternative to the removable type in high theft areas. The steering wheel remote, enough power and display make it a steal at it's price.
I have purchased two of these car stereos for my '96 Dodge Caravan & 1990 Volvo. Easy to install and worked great from the moment I turned it on.The automatic faceplate helps deter thieves since the dash looks empty when unit is off. 24 wattsX4 channels helps drive the factory speakers in both cars cleanly with a 0-100 digital volume control. Sorry, there isn't a turnknob for volume but a "rocker type" switch that works fine. Having a mute button is a superb feature for cell calls, parking, or tollbooths. The steering wheel remote controls input/volume(and disc changer)and really helps you keep your eyes on road! FM radio is ok- except in Downtown Chicago where tall buildings affect reception. One small problem (noted in the instructions) is that some CR-Rs won't play. Regular CD's are fine but the player rejects some discs the play fine on other systems? Still the unit cranks the sound with 3 loudness settings and bass&treble controls. I still have not played MP3's or hooked extra amps to the 4 preamp outputs. It's great the have some room to grow...
