The Bottom Line:
This is a beautiful looking AM\FM CD\MP3 player.
Yes Aiwa's CDC-MP3 will play MP3 files from a CD that gives you roughly 10 hours of music on one CD. Now from my experience, I get between 150 to 175 MP3 files on one 74 minute CD and 165 to 190 on an 80 minute CD. You must have a CD burner and software to make your own MP3 CDs.
Your MP3 files can be of different bit rates, I prefer using the same size. I have my entire MP3 files at a bit rate of 128 kbps. The reason I pick 128 is the quality is great and to use a higher bit rate will just take up more CD space, which means less songs on a CD.
This player will support up to 8 different directories for your MP3 files. You can play as many as 512 files or tracks per CD, though they would have to all be two minute songs or less to get that many on a CD.
To convert your regular CDs into MP3s you will need software to do that. Why would you want to do that? 10-hours of music on one CD or 10 to 20 CDs (Albums) on one CD.
The CDC-MP3
This is an AM/FM single CD player that will play a CD, CDR, and CDRW. This is a beautiful player with lots of colors on the display screen and it will display the song it is playing. It can display up to 32 letters for reading your titles. The display also shows your audio level and a few icons. You can also adjust the display's contrast level, this is handy if you don?t like it so bright or dim.
It has a detachable faceplate and has controls for a CD changer if you wish to add one. It delivers 45 watts per each of four speakers.
There are controls for volume, bass, treble, balance and fader. There is a H-BASS, this is a bass boost with the following settings; off, low, medium and high, now you can control your bass. Then there is DSSA, (Driver's Sound Stage Adjustment) this is to make it like a live soundstage.
You can preset up to 30 radio stations, 18-FM stations and 12-AM stations. There are also settings like track repeat, next track and random play. You can also fast forward and backward. If you have to you can also mute it. There is a mini jack on the front panel that lets you plug in an auxiliary source.
The CDC-MP3 comes with a wireless steering wheel remote control. This will give you some of the basic functions for easier control.
Installation
A lot of places will install it for free, weather you install it yourself or have them install it, you will be out of about another $40 or so for proper installation. All vehicles are different so the cost will vary. A wiring harness will cost around $20 to make it like a factory hookup. Then it may cost around another $20 for a custom plate to fill in any space needed to make it look like it is factory installed.
There are 4-RCA jacks for each of the speakers and also a multi-pin socket for a wiring harness of the four speakers. There is a DIN socket for connecting a CD changer and an antenna jack.
Installing it yourself is not hard it is time consuming. If you can get it installed for free, then let them do it. Installation in my area for an in-dash is about $50.
Overall
It sounds great and it has plenty of volume power. The DSSA is a feature that I can live without. The bass is also very nice with plenty of boom, boom power. (I recommend some good speakers if you plan to use the bass at high levels.)
The display is beautiful and easy to read. The list price is $350, though you can find it for as low as $269 if you shop around. Try Epinion?s ?Check latest prices? for a great price.
I highly recommend the Aiwa CDC-MP3.
