Cons Crappy headphones, shock protection adds static.
Recommended it? Yes
I bought the Aiwa XP-V50 because I had previously owned 6 defective Discman (four of them were Sony D-368's) prior to purchasing the XP-V50 and I was looking for a replacement. I had owned an Aiwa before, but I had to return it because it heated up when I played CD's. I was glad that I gave Aiwa another chance, because I have only had to bring the unit in for service once for a laser readjustment due to one of my friends dropping it. It's sound quality is better than any other personal CD player on the market. It is amazing that this $60 CD player can reproduce nuances in the music that are usually only produced on much more expensive home units. Its DSL bass boost function does not muddy the sound and it boosts the bass plenty. The shock protection never fails, even when I am jogging, and it has decent battery life. The only irritating thing about the XP-V50 is that the EASS anti-skip function adds static to the sound when bells play in the music when the anti-skip is turned on. Otherwise, it adds no other artifacts to the sound. Sadly it is no longer being sold, but the new Aiwas are basically improved versions of this one. But, if you buy an Aiwa and need customer service or tech support, do not call the 1-800-BUY AIWA number. Call their customer service number at 1-800-424-2492.
