The Bottom Line:
Nice little unit that gives great sound.
When most prerecorded music comes in CD form, you're out in the cold if you have a cassette unit in your car or else where. I needed a way to dub my CDs onto cassettes so I could listen to them in my car. This unit not only gives great sound for it's little size, but has a CD to cassette dubbing feature that is really remarkable. Once you program in the size of the cassette tape, it will lay the tracks on a CD to fit the tape. Aiwa calls this feature AI (Artificial Intelligence).
Another interesting feature of this system is that each speaker is actually two in one. Each enclosures not only has a mid to high speaker and amplifier, but also a low range amplifier and subwoofer. It takes extra wiring to connect the speakers to the system, but the sound reproduction is terrific. Volume levels for this unit are not extremely high, but since it's a bookshelf type system, the sound is adequate.
The system has a preprogrammed equalizer with three different equalization curves: Rock with powerful sound emphasizing treble and bass, Pop with more presence in the vocals and midrange and Jazz with accented lower frequencies for jazz type music. Although it has the equalizer settings I rarely use them and just keep the unit set on it's neutral setting.
Other features are a remote control, clock, sleep timer, preset radio station selector and auxiliary input.
If you want a nice sounding system, but are limited in space, this is the unit to get. It is very solid and it looks like it will last forever. I got mine from an online retailer for less then $100.00. It's well worth that.
