Pros Price, size, looks
Cons Sound, CD (mal) function
Recommended it? Yes

Since my old Aiwa pooped out on me I decided to buy a new one. This time around I didn't have much money to buy a super nice system. My goals were clear. The new system had to be small, powerful, and clear. I was not put off by the fact that I could only insert one CD at a time as my old Aiwa had... Read full review »

Pros looks nice
Cons doesn't get really loud
Recommended it? Yes

I used to work at Sears electronics and the Aiwa XR-M55 was one of the best sellers. In fact we sold so many that most of the time it was out of stock and many irate customers would come back and pester us on when we would get some in.

For a small system it had a decent amount of power ?... Read full review »

Pros Good Alarm, Good sound
Cons CD player Hiss, Poor bass
Recommended it? Yes

If you are looking for a mini-system with a tuner, CD, and tape deck I think that for the price, this Aiwa product would definitly meet your needs. However, if it is really good volume and bass you are looking for, you should stay away from this product. It has a good alarm feature, for if you want... Read full review »

Pros Great sound from a small size
Cons None
Recommended it? Yes

When most prerecorded music comes in CD form, you're out in the cold if you have a cassette unit in your car or else where. I needed a way to dub my CDs onto cassettes so I could listen to them in my car. This unit not only gives great sound for it's little size, but has a CD to cassette dubbing... Read full review »

The Little Stereo That Could

Pros Fit N Finish/Price/Sound
Cons Not Much
Recommended it? Yes

After e-window shopping for several weeks at various manufacturer sites, consumer-rated sites, and online retailers, I finally decided to go with this model. Price and sound were most important in my decision. Since many mini-bookshelf systems don't include a tape deck anymore, being able to play... Read full review »

Flaw in CD function

Pros clean design, superlative sound for the price
Cons irritating, undeniable flaw with CD function
Recommended it? No

BE WARNED!. . .The aiwa xr-m55 has a flaw in the CD function. When using Direct Play (going directly to a specific song, instead of starting with song #1 and letting the CD play through to the end) the first half second of a track gets cut off. This was a painful discovery. I was careful to check... Read full review »

Could be better

Pros Small and compact so it can fit almost anywhere.
Cons Too expensive for what you are getting out of it.
Recommended it? No

The Aiwa XR-M55 is a nice little compact system. But the problem about that is it can be too small in a big room or house. It is also very expensive. Seems to me it would be smarter to get something that is bigger and maybe better and slightly more expensive. That way you are actually getting what... Read full review »
