Best deck I've ever had
Pros
Simple display, sound quality/control, versatility, remote, HPF/LPF built in
Cons
Too complex for the simple minded.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Buy it, it's an excellent MP3 player. It has sound control and quality that are unbeatable. I drive slower now just to spend more time listening to my music!
I bought this deck to replace an old school Alpine Cassette deck (TDM???) and it's made a whole world of difference. I wanted an MP3/CD receiver with more sound control and I got all I asked for.
The Display: The display on my old Alpine completely blacked. I wasn't expecting anything flashy with the 9830. It's a pretty simple display. I've heard about it being too dark, but I disagree with that. It's visible enough for me to read it anytime of the day.
The Sound control: It comes with a four band parametric EQ which is an improvement from just bass and treble on my old Alpine. One thing i liked about this deck was the high pass and low pass filters. I was able to send all the highs to my four speakers and all the lows to my sub. Before I used this feature, my speakers would distort at high volumes. Not anymore. The sub volume control is something I really like. You can also change the timing of the speakers(delay).
What I'm running: I'm using this deck to power 4" Polk GXRs in the front and 6.5" JBL GTO 3ways in the back. I have an old JBL sub hooked up to an Alpine MRP-T220 bridged. The sound I get is ultra crisp and clean. The bass is awesome. I can play my music at very high levels and still not get distortion.
Other features: Faceplate tilts, I dont use it. Radio tuner, I barely use it. 3 4-volt preouts, I'm currently using the sub out and plan to use the other two when my amp comes in. Power on/off for the built in amp, saves power and increases sound quality. Never skips and can read even the most scratched up CDs! I-personalize. MP3s/WMA/CD playability. CD changer controller.
