This isnt for everyone

Pros Awesome crossovers, decent loud sound, Biolite
Cons Military time, horrible button sequence for configuration
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Stay Away from this unit if you cant drive and think hard at the same time. NOT WORTH THE $$$
The CDA-9835 is a nice looking unit but not so nice when using it. I bought it for 2 reasons. The power and the crossovers. Well 3. I also wanted to play around with stereo subwoofers yet still switch to mono. Bad things about the unit: The EQ is not so good. You get 5 parametric bands but I recommend at least 6 and can never get the sound just right. After you choose the EQ curves you need to save it by pressing the volume knob once. I forget to save all the time and loose the settings when the radio goes back to the cd or radio screen. Same thing with all the features. Save or loose the settings. I find the unit is slow when you want to move quickly through screens. For example, when you want to turn the volume up really fast you cant. The volume bar will move up some but then move back down by itself. The faster you spin the knob the less the volume bar moves. You have to pace yourself. Also when you want to go through the menus fast it wont let you cause each menu pops up slow and will do what you ask when its ready not when you are ready. You cant change the lame, destracting background clips or the time from military to civilian. The MX feature sucks. It just adds bass and treble and distorts. They should have kept BBE.I been having it for 2 months and still mess up trying to set the thing. Almost went off road while playing with it. Alpine offers something on there website called I personalize which is useless cause it does everything you can do on the radio(except change the initial greeting which shows maybe 2 seconds with an annoying background picture). Good things I like about this unit: I do like the fact that you can change the colors on the face and the buttons independently or have them the same color, any color you want. The Crossover is awesome. I dont know anybody else that gives 4 crossover slopes 6,12,18,24db with stereo or mono subwoofers with each channel having time corrections. The reception is really good for FM. Suggestions to Alpine: If they would keep the crossovers and ditch the lame backgrounds plus make it easier to use the unit, add a better EQ and let me REALLY personalize it with my own pictures or short clips Id buy another Alpine. Its an over priced unit like all Alpine products. Oh and I connected an MRD-M501 amp for the subs. It was loud but a cheap ($70 ebay) Blaupunkt PA2150 outdid it in every aspect. Alpine needs to make better products. I learned Alpine sales there name not there product.
