The Bottom Line:
This is the type of product that has you shaking your head and thinking why did they release a product that clearly does not work. Run Run fast!
I used to own a garmin street pilot that worked like a charm, but it was stolen. So I happen to be buying some stereo equipment and saw the alpine gps. The salesguy said they worked great so I bought it. This thing is pure garbage. Everytime I use it it sends me in the wrong direction. It is not clear when to turn so it is easy to make mistakes. I live in the vancouver bc area and it does not seem to know about one of the new bridges that was built 20 years ago. I have lent it to 2 other people to try and they said it was useless as well. Their customer service is next to impossible to get a hold of, the battery will not charge so you must use the cigarette lighter socket to drive it. I was driving home and it wanted to send me through the tunnel but I chose to go over the bridge as it is closer and has less traffic. It could not accept this, it continually tried to get me to go way out of the way to go back to the tunnel. Even when I was nearly on the bridge it still could not understand the new route. Now keep in mind this is a brand new unit. Anyway it recieves the lowest possible rating of just about any product I have ever bought. Stick with a well known brand that specialize in GPS technology.
