I purchased this unit as an alternative to purchasing the (very expensive) Alpine NVE-N872A. I loved the fact that it is so small and portable and that I could take it anywhere with me, but I soon began to loathe this little gadget.

Pros If you absolutely have to by a present for someone you hate this is perfect!

I used to own a garmin street pilot that worked like a charm, but it was stolen. So I happen to be buying some stereo equipment and saw the alpine gps. Pros brand, style, gets you where you want to go (if on route), learn from commands
Cons quiet voice commands, takes forever to re-route, only works when plugged in
Recommended it? No

UPS guy came yesterday; so I got my GPS. Looks great, works great - when you're taking the route it wants you to take. If you get off track, you're screwed.
