Pros Awesome sound on the right song
Cons Glide Bar, Equalizer, Display
Recommended it? No

I don't know where to start to describe how disappointed I am with this deck. I have owned only Alpine for the last 15 yrs, but NO MORE!
The deck is one of the hardest to operate I have ever seen! I have an all Alpine system, so everything should work together. It does, but not well.

Pros Great sound, EQ, Crossover, Cool Display, Satellite ready, iPod-ready, plays MP3 discs
Cons Takes a couple days to figure out, midday sun may make display hard to see
Recommended it? Yes

I recently purchased an Alpine 9853. I have owned several aftermarket CD decks now, including a $325 Eclipse deck and a lower end Alpine one. I was beginning to think that my speakers and subs were just not good enough to sound great. But man, they are just fine. My cheap Alpine 9821 was the... Read full review »

Feature-packed, but not user friendly.

Pros Time delay, highly adjustable crossover, GlideTouch, easy-to-read screen, 7 band Eq
Cons User friendliness, file navigation, pre-out voltage, lack of back-up battery
Recommended it? Yes

I purchased this head unit second hand for $200.00. I was attracted to it primarily by the innovative GlideTouch function along with its processing abilities. It wasn't long before I found out what this unit was all about...

The GlideTouch bar is the most unique feature this head unit has... Read full review »

Pros Extensive features (X-over, time-correction, EQ, etc.) Great Styling, easy to read text
Cons No bass and treble controls (EQ, but tricky to adjust for small adjustments)
Recommended it? Yes

I cannot say enough about this deck. I love it. I have owned nothiong but Alpine for the last 14 years, and this deck lives up to the Alpine legend. I did extensive shopping before purchasing and this Alpine deck seemed to have EVERYTHING I was looking for. I wanted time correction and extensive EQ... Read full review »

Pros Sound, Display, Functionality, Features.
Cons Ease of use
Recommended it? Yes

After buying my new car I decided that a new head unit was required. My last two H/U's were Sony and I could see no reason to change this trend. I opted for the Sony CDX-F5550 with iPod connector.
The Sony units that I've owned are extremely user friendly, but when I put my new stereo into my... Read full review »

Pros - Equalizer
Cons - GlideTouch Bar
Recommended it? No

I paid $380 CDN. I would not buy this deck if I were you, and that especially applies of you have had a previous model that is Alpine. They have changed the whole deck. It has a new GlideTouch bar that claims to be so great and it sucks! If you are used to using the Rotary Encoder then plain and... Read full review »

Pros built in amp, equilizer, many cool features
Cons well documented unit problems (on the web), glide bar
Recommended it? No

I've had Alpine head units in the past and I was looking forward to getting this one up and running. 2 weeks into getting everything hooked up the cd player begins failing to eject cd's until finally the last cd I had in there is stuck. I thought there might be an issue with my head unit so i... Read full review »

Honestly It's another great Alpine Product

Pros Many Features, A-net system, amp-link
Cons Little hard to get used to glide touch
Recommended it? Yes

Don't believe the other reviews this radio is GREAT. The glide touch once you get used to it is one of the best features I have ever used. I have had Alpine for the last 12 years and have never had a problem before and I am sure I will have Alpine products for the next 25 years. I was skeptical to... Read full review »

Pros Excellent sound,beautiful looks
Cons Faulty opening mechanism

I went through TWO CDA-9853's in the span of one month. I have always gone with Alpine and love their stuff, for the most part. And everything was awesome with this deck until it stopped wanting to eject my CD's. It was tempermental at first- I had to press the Open button a couple of times and it... Read full review »

Pros Alpine, sound enhancements, EQ, XOver
Cons Ease of use.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this deck to replace my Kenwood Excelon unit that had some minor but annoying problems. I saw this deck in a store and like the glidetouch feature, even more so because it still worked on the store model.(We all know how beat those things get) Anyway, this deck sounds great. It is not the... Read full review »
