The Bottom Line:
Alpine's low end player is still miles ahead of anything else in this price category.
I bought the Alpine CDE-7856 a couple of months ago & am absolutely loving it. For a low end player, it has all the features you could ask for & terrific quality sound.
The buttons are easily accessible which is especially important while you're driving. I play mostly burns (CD-R's) & haven't had a problem yet with skipping, even on gravel.
The installation was simple (even for a girl!) & it fits in the dash just like it had come with the car. The faceplate is easy to take on & off as well.
It has your standard Fade, Balance, Treble & Bass features, all accessed under the Mode button. The radio station pre-set buttons are easy to program as well. You scan to the station you want & then hold down the button you want to set that station to. The display will begin to flash. Let go of the button & then press it one more time to confirm. Done.
I've tried a few other brands (Kenwood & Jensen specifically) & this player is by far the best one I've had. Although I don't use most of the bonus features, I love the mute button. Comes in so handy when your phone rings or you pull into the drive-thru window.
