I think what makes your CD player the most effective is where you place it. This particular one is on the top of my trunk in an 850 Volvo. I've only had it for around two months now, but so far there have been no problems. The placement in my trunk is effective, but my brother had his put in the glove compartment which is much more convenient. The bad part about the trunk is that what is in there, is in there until you stop, get out, and change it. It can also be a problem is you have some "testy" items in your trunk that you would prefer not to be noticed by any other person.
I live in Virginia and the weather tends to change drastically sometimes, especially this year. Last week, the temperature was in the 70s while this week we are in the teens. I assume that most CD changers are prepared to survive good and bad weather, and this one does it just as well as any other.
None of my CDs have been ruined in it. I can get pretty annoyed with a song fast, so I keep it changing constantly. It is affordable, and will survive a crash. My friend is a technological maniac and he completely wrecked his Volvo wagon with the player in some pretty damaged area and sold it to someone in perfect condition. Skipping is never an issue. It plays through all sorts of road conditions even real rocky and bumpy side roads at heavy speeds.
I do not have any extra sound equipment in the car that helps boost the quality because I do not really need it. This changer has great, clear sound.
The only major problem I have had with it is trying to access my CDs in the dark. Unless you have the spot where the button is perfectly memorized, it is easy to skip over it. I generally need a flashlight in the dark since there are no lights in my trunk. It is a good changer for Volvos especially.
