Digital Movies in Your Car????
Pros
Awesome toy. Single DIN size. Dolby Digital Output.
Cons
Price. Hard to use.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you have money and likes to watch DVD movies while you are sitting in your car, go for it. I'll only recommend this if you like exotic gadget/toys.
When I bought the Alpine DVA-5200, I had also bought a 7 inch widescreen monitor for my car. The DVD player is really a great unit, but I don't know if the best justifies it. The default subtitle is annoying, when you are driving and don't want to see subtitles, you have to use the remote the turn it off.
Also, when you shut off your car, you cannot watch the DVD movie from where you left off, it has to start all over again. It does also play CDs, but same situation, it starts all over again everytime you shut it off/on.
The good thing about this is it fits in a DIN location. So if your car has a double din opening, you can install this in your dash. You can also install this unit vertically in your glove box or in your glove box.
The picture quality is top notch, the best out there. But it really depends on what kind of screen you have for your vehicle. If you have a nice screen/monitor, you will get a very nice picture.
I did not get a chance to test out the Dolby Digital output because I returned this unit and bought a portable DVD player instead from Panasonic.
I can only recommend this unit if you have cash to throw away and wants an in-dash DVD player. Just remember, it will not play while your car is moving, unless you find an installer willing to bypass the safety function. Be aware that most installer won't do this because of liability issue.
