One of the most satisfying choices I made.
Pros
Excellent sound, ease of use. The display is uncluttered.
Cons
Limited choice for adding a CD changer
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Excellent sound, easy to use, simple & sufficient display. Understated & unassuming controls. Should be a hit in Britain
After installing & listening to SONY, PIONEER, Clarion etc.(no offense)I tried the top of the range (then) model. What drew me to it, apart from Alpine's reputation, was the understated face plate & controls. After the jazzy display of The pioneer decks, I installed it after the shop owner expressed confidence in the product. But it took me only an hour to be hooked. After the & - volume controls on most decks, the 'normal' rotary volume control was a delight. Later after adding a CD changer (CHA-1214) I was even happier. While switching between CD's was easy enough the title displayed even before the CD was changed making the distraction even less so. When this stereo got stolen after a few years of use I bought a similar, tho' newer model, the 7987, but the volume control was not as good, & the CD title would not show up for several seconds & overall the display was too garish & multicoloured. Of the the sound quality was as good. So I searched & searched till I found a secondhand 7548 for RS.5000(little over US$100) & fitted the new one in my wife's car.
I have now bought Infinity Kappa components for my car & am eyeing the Alpine MRV-450 amp to hook up & enjoy my 7548
