The Bottom Line:
First of its kind like a beta, needs updating. Ease of Use=3 cuz scrolling problems. Durability=2 cuz requires system reset every week. I RECOMMEND A NEWER ALPINE VERSION.
I've had mine installed for >1yrs. It looks awesome compared to classic headunits so people usually love to look at it while sitting. Has a lot of features like bluetooth (which i dont use), custom menus, custom colors/backgrounds, etc.
Has 3 separate outputs (front/left/sub) so helps with sound isolation and amplifiers. The sound is good even though I have a separate audio processor. Navigation around my ipod can take long in comparison to trying to find a song while driving... I catch myself looking at the face too long and having to take breaks when trying to find a song because the scroll is really slow through the interface. The album art is cool and unique... but is very pixelated.
With that aside my biggest complaint is the memory clearing. Sometimes after I start my car, at which point the unit is supposed to turn on, I find the unit dead and unable to turn on. I have to take off the face, find a skinny pen and push the 'RESET' red button inside. After putting the face back on and successfully starting the unit, I find all my settings cleared. Time is reset to 12:00, radio settings are cleared and untuned, and the EQ settings are reset. This happens anywhere from 1-2x per week. It is VERY annoying. I believe some sort of power/computer transition keeps setting off some sort of breaker that shuts down the unit, requiring a reset clearing. At first it didn't happen so much, but it started being a problem after the warranty ran out so I'm SOL... although its nothing to cry about, it just shows the incorrect time/date all the time and EQ takes about 30sec to reconfigure.
Overall it's a decent unit... but it would be great if I could always keep my configuration settings without it resetting on its own.
