AltecACS54-5 piece speaker system
Pros
full, rich quality sound
Cons
can't think of any
Recommended it?
Yes
I bought the Altec Lansing ACS54 about a month ago. This 5 piece computer speaker system is awesome!!! It has a 4-inch sub-woofer and 4-speakers which provide for surround sound. It only cost me about $85 or so which may seem like much for computer speakers, but with the quality of sound that comes with the system, it was well worth it. Oh yeah, I know that the picture (which is a different model-the ACS44) shows only two speakers...it looks just like the ACS44 but has two more speakers (I couldn't find this model, the ACS54, since they didn't have it listed but I thought I'd give it a review anyway because it is such a satisfying product).
I bought this because the speakers that came with my computer were terrible: no bass or quality rich sound. Plus, I live in a dormitory at school and there are a few people a few doors down that just LOVE to blast their music (and believe me, they have pretty bad taste). So, naturally, being a music fanatic, I had to buy some speakers so I could compete with them, and if not, then I could at least drown out their garbage and listen to my music in peace. When I hooked it up to my computer (which isn't complicated at all and takes a few minutes), I turned the sound up and the walls in my room started shaking. And this was only at halfway!!!
The real advantage of this system is the awesome sound. I didn't bring my stereo from home and ever since I bought my computer (about a month ago as well), I've been listening to nothing but mp3's. With the new speakers, the full sound I was getting was just as good, or maybe even better than most stereo sounds. And with the way I have the speakers set up, I am getting surround sound and what's better than surround sound? It not only helps when you're listening to music, but it also helps when you are playing computer games: you can tell when things are coming from your left or right side. Its pretty cool.
If you love listening to music, and are too cheap (like me) to buy CD's and listen to songs mostly through your computer, then you will most definitely love this computer speaker system. I'm sure there are bigger and maybe better ones out there (like ones with 6-inch subwoofers-I think 4 is plenty though), but if you don't want to spend half your paycheck, then the ACS54 will be a well worthwhile investment.
