Very "Unique" use for these speakers
Pros
Awesome Sound and power for the price - Nice and small
Cons
I honestly can not thing of any.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Absolutely wonderful purchase for the money. If I did not have my eyes on the Monsoon's I would buy another set for the Computer at home.
Update - December 26th 2001
Just a note. if you mount these in your jeep or other vehicle like I did. the Din style plug that goes to the fromt left speaker with the controls. It tends to work loose over time. I had my speakers stop working on me and it took me a while to track it down to this since it looked like it was plugged in. A wrap of masking tape to snug up the fit has caused to never work loose again.
I am still nothing short of impressed with the quality of sound I can not experience in my Jeep :-)
------------------------------------------------------------
First let me say that I found an extremely interesting "use" for these speakers.
I purchased them because of there SIZE and the fact that they had availble artificle surround sound. IE if you plug in a normal Stereo source you have a dial you can turn to make it play from all 4 speakers Very Nice !
The reason I needed small was because I was installing this setup in my Truck. Yes I said in my truck.
I own a 1988 Jeep Cherokee. I love 4 wheeling but I also like good sound.
My brother has some $1200 invested into his stereo system in his comaro (if not more by now) and plainly to me it sucks.
I wanted better cleaner nicer sound. Sound that would immerse me not give me a headache or shake the teeth out of my head.
First thing I did was make some mods. I removed the control panel from the base of the front speaker and extended the wires going to the speaker itself.
The Control Circui board with just some side shaving fit perfectly behind my cup holders paneling (my cup holder goes in the middle right above the E-Brake
3 holes - 1 for each Rotary dial and one for the LED and it looks like it was designed to go there.
The front speakers HANG upside down on the botton of the trucks front dashboard face.
The rear speakers mount to the Framing between the backseat and the back bay of the truck.
The Woofer goes right on the center hump between the seats PERFECCT friction fit like it was designed to go there. I was quite impressed.
I had to extend the front speaker wires just a few inches to reach and still be able to channel them out of the way and out of site.
Now for the test. I plug in the MD player and what can I say
WOW! I was totally blown away !! I was drowned in heavenly surround sound music from the China Dolls :-) !!
The bass was nice and deep and "just" enough that you could just feel in through the seats. Just the way I like it. Enough to let you know it there but not grossly out of this world and rattling your teeth :-)
There is more than enough Amplification to be able to listen with pleasure even with the windows down at highway speeds (MY MD has a LOW level output so the speakers need nice amplification to jack it up a little which was a concern in selecting a set of speakers)
With the windows up the sound is heavenly. It completely fills the car and my head with luscious sound that easily rivals in my opinion the $1200 my brother spent on his system. My total cost ?? $69.99 plus tax :-)
The speakers can max out. If I plug in my MP3 or CD player at max volume it will start to break up. But I installed it for my Minidic Player and it works at all volumes perfectly with that unit. I would never listen to it at max volume anyway. Too Loud.
I am seriously impressed with these speakers for use in the CAR. So impressed that I am going to send a letter to the company saying so. In my opinion or should I say epinion :-) these are much better sounding in the car than a regular car set of speakers.
So far the only car stereo that is its match (and it actually far surpasses it) is my dad's stereo in his car. But then again his is a $52,000 Lincoln Towncar so it better be better :-)
I run the whole thing on an inverter for power which is also impressive since the altec speakers seem to completely filter the false sine wave that comes off the inverter (some older speakers do not and will cause a hell of a nasty hum from the wave pattern coming from the inverter)
