Wake up the audio beast from within your computer

Pros Small satellites, great sound, reasonable price, digital option
Cons large sub-woofer, difficult to understand setup
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you have a good audio card and you enjoy music/games, you can't go wrong. After taking the time to figure out the setup, you'll be rockin'
I bought my new Dell specifically without speakers because I wanted to shop around for a set that I knew I would be happy with (not that Dell?s speakers are weak). The spent extra on the sound card and wanted to take full advantage of my MP3 collection.
I found these speakers after careful evaluation and jumped at the price I found at Comp-U-Plus. I was attracted to the 4.1 Digital options and had heard good things about them.
Out of the box, it?s a simple system to set up. One simple diagram lets you know where to plug in all of the lines. In less than 10 minutes, the speakers were ready to go.
The problem I had was understanding how to take full advantage of the digital capabilities of the system. I will admit that part of the problem is that my sound card offered too many options and my own ignorance about digital sound didn?t help.
I was getting great sound out of the system, but I wanted to make sure that I was using the audio card and speakers to the best of their abilities. I called the company that makes my sound card. I called Dell (a few times). I then called Altec. Altec technicians were great in explaining to me how to use the speakers and how to set them up for optimal use. I learned a little bit about digital sound and configured them to really create explosive sound.
Right now, the speakers are up and working great. There?s no distortion at high volumes and the bass rocks my office. The speakers are small and look great on my desk and around my office. The speaker with the controls is easy to use and looks cool with its volume display. I heard that people were complaining that the ON/OFF switch is hard to reach behind the main speaker. I never turn off my speakers. Never. Not a problem.
I recommend these for anyone who has a sound card capable of handling it. It sounds great and came at a great price.
