Altec Lansing AVS200 2 Speakers

I purchased a Mirage AVS mini system with four of these speakers, the similarly sized center channel, and a 10 inch Mirage subwoofer at HiFi Buys a little over a year ago. Everything is paired up to a 500 watt Yamaha receiver with DTS decoder. Simply put, these sound great. Nothing gets muddied over or distorted coming from them, even at high sound levels. Compared to similarly priced satellite speaker systems from Boston and Yamaha, these Mirages offer a far clearer sound. These also offer a MUCH better sound than any Bose Lifestyle/Acoustimass system and are less than half the price. As with any 5.1 system that has speakers of this size, some of the midbass signals get a little lost between the 3.5 inch drivers in the satellites and the 10 inch sub, but this is only noticeable when you listen to something like this and a much larger system back-to-back. The speakers are small- not so small as Bose Lifestyle speakers, but still unobtrusive. Mine are all black- I haven't seen them in white. Again, I highly recommend these products. They offer exceptionally crisp, clear sound for both music and movies. The listed price is a guess; I bought them in a package deal with the center channel, sub, and receiver included.

ADDENDUM:

After two and a half years, I just upgraded my front right and left speakers to larger Mirage Omnipolars. Although movies were excellent on the AVS system, I found it a little lacking for some music, mainly classical, country, and acoustic rock. I still hold that it's a great movie system, and the speakers can really kick musically too. I have had several parties with hundreds of people coming in and out and got comments on the sound, which was very loud and remained clear. But in this case, they were mainly playing rock and hip-hop/dance music.

So, for the price, the AVS system is a great deal, especially for movies. If you're looking solely for music speakers though, I'd recommend something with a little bigger drivers.
