Terrible quality, constant hiss and interference
Pros
Solid bass and decent treble for the price.
Cons
permanent hiss and interference from anything electronic.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Do not buy. Despite solid sound, the constant hiss and interference from anything electronic make owning these noise machines a chore.
I really couldn't say why AL decided to make such an inferior product and let it go to market... From the moment you plug the power cord in, the sub-woofer begins hissing. I thought it would stop once the input was connected, but it simply spread to all three speakers. What's more, it picks up transmissions from radio stations and (quite disturbingly) passing cabs! This hiss and interference is still audible even when the unit is powered down from the control unit, so clearly simply turning them off is not the solution. I actually had to bring these speakers home from work, because they would emit intermittent loud beeping sounds whenever someone with a Blackberry or Treo passed by. In the middle of the night I can sometimes here fuzzy radio and interference coming from the office, but I refuse to climb under the table and unplug them every day. The worst part is, they sound pretty darn good when playing music, putting out respectable treble and very decent bass. Sadly, their ability to produce pretty good sound for the price is completely overwhelmed by the constant hissing and interference.
