The Bottom Line:
well worth $30
I have always been pleased with Altec Lansing products so I wasn't scared away by the $30 price tag that may have made me choose a pricier package by another manufacturer. My previous PC speakers were Altec Lansing BX1120 which is nearly identical to this set-up aside from the fact that it doesn't include the subwoofer, and I was pleased with those speakers as well so I figured I couldn't go wrong with this set up.... I do need to make it clear that I am not an audiophile in any way, so others may find faults with this system that I don't. As a test before writing this review I played a few songs from a CD on my PC and then took the CD downstairs and played the same songs thru my Bose speakers on my home theater system. The Bose system definitely had the better sound but I really had to pay attention to notice the differences.
Currently I have only two dislikes with this system and both are relatively minor. First the speakers are hard wired together which for my computer desk makes it hard to hide the wires since I can't thread the wire through the half dollar sized holes in the back of the desk. My other dislike is the fact that the power switch for the entire system is on the back of the subwoofer making turning it off to save power a chore to climb under the desk and grope around on the back of the subwoofer for the power switch.
