Okay I waited after all they ARE speakers

Pros Nice design for the eye, Bass lover dream
Cons Lacking high and mid range, remote is worthless
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  For non audiophiles it would suffice however for anyone into music it does not cut the mustard

Disclaimer: I am not an audiophile!! I waited a while to review these to see if I was becoming one

I received the Altec Lansing 2100 Multimedia Speaker System as a gift and I understood they cost aprox $90.00. This is my second speaker system that included a "Subwoofer", that oversized box that makes the bass so intense your neighbors hate you. Installation was as easy as it could be but then again how complicated can hooking your left satellite into the proper jack and again with the right be?? Also included is a wired remote that about as little as possible on it and still be called a remote. I would have liked a feature that controls the subwoofer on the remote then it would justify its existence.

Sound:

Things have changed since video games on PC's began and now emphasis is on soundtracks and voice as much as graphics. This is the BASS generation, nothing is worth hearing without over clocking the bass if you will. Gamers experience explosions that sound more realistic and that it does. But all games are not explosive. If half the effort was put into mid range and high ranges as the bass then this would have been a great speaker system. The sound is not unlike the real inexpensive speakers that come with most PC's. I cannot share with you the rich highs because it doesn't produce any. Now before you think that this is a totally negative comment it is not. The sound is adequate as far as my needs. The stereo separation does what it's supposed to do. If the monster footsteps are supposed to come from the left then it does and if my grenade launch is supposed to come from the right then it does....guess where the explosion comes from??? Yup that subwoofer...(I had to do that)Having said that I need to also state if I had paid close to a hundred dollars for a speaker system for my PC I would have expected more. Perhaps not Bose 901's but more then what these little guys deliver. The subwoofer does an excellent job of doing what it's supposed to and I would argue maybe too well. However you can adjust the subwoofer level on the back so place it where you can get to it.

The Look:
Snazzy design for the satellites in a black on grey semi bowed body. The base could have been made somewhat better as they tip easy. The plug wires are color coded with its matching input on the subwoofer's bottom. The subwoofer box itself is of the same color scheme with an adequate base so your box doesn't vibrate itself into your neighbors living room (The bass itself made it there trust me) The remote and it's stand are nice looking but the remote itself has a hard time staying connected to it's base. Like I said it's about as featureless as it can be. I use my operating system's controls more because I can do more.

In a nutshell:

The sound is adequate for those of us who are not picky but for anyone who is even half into sound will not be pleased.
