Amazon Kindle DX 1st Generation Handheld

If you commute daily and read the paper this is ideal. Its less portable than the little one. But is much better for scanning news stories. Carried in a briefcase/purse negates this problem.

Battery life starts off about a weeks worth and degrades to about 3 days. Not bad at all.

Amazon's content level is awesome. ALmost everything is available on Kindle. (unlike Netflix online, for example). Books realy do take a few seconds to download and the 3g is great.

Their sample book program is probably the best Kindle feature. I am reading more varied books becasue I have tried more things.

clear text can be resized. good for sunlit areas. light weight. great on a plane or trip versus hauling books around.

paper sometimes seems clunky.cant give the book away to a friend like with the paper version. BUT you can buy any book used for about $3 on Amazon and give that away. Thats what I do with books I want to share.
