AMC 5 Channel Solid State Amp - A Truly Hot Experience.
Pros
Good sound at a reasonable price
Cons
Caught on fire while we slept
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Fire hazard!!!
I liked the sound of this amp, no complaints. It has the necessary kick to convince you that you might never again want to go to the theater to watch a movie. Unfortunately it runs hot, a little too hot. Last Thursday night (August 15,2002) while we were sleeping it caught on fire!
I bought this unit June 1999 and until the fire was very happy with it. I expected that I would be using this as my primary home amplifier for at least 5 more years. At $650 this amp rivals the sound of units twice as expensive. Unfortunately it now seems to me that this sound was achieve by skimping on safety.
Unhappily I can not recommend this unit at any price. I hope that my experience is just an unfortunate one unit/ one time event. However since it did happen it could be a design flaw and until proven otherwise I wish to forewarn everyone that may be considering this amp.
