Perfectly functional for a 2nd monitor
Pros
Doesn't cost any money
Cons
Not exactly the best quality. But, hey, it's inexpensive.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Great price for a second monitor!
I walked into an Office Depot looking for a second monitor to supplement my Sony 24" GMD-FW900 CRT which cost me an arm and three legs. All I wanted was an inexpensive CRT to organize my palettes and leave me with a single, large image window. I saw this thing and the clerk said it was the last one. It was unused and unopened and he said it was a clearance item. I paid $69.99 for it. Great price! But then when I paid for it, the clerk gave me a mail-in rebate for $70.00 !!!!! Well, how can you beat a price of FREE?!??! Of course I did pay $6 tax.
If you are looking for a palettes monitor then this is a great deal! I thought it would blow up (I never heard of AOC) but it seems to work fine. And for such a low price unit, the geometry stays put (unlike more expensive monitors)
Not bad....
**Update**
Office Depot still has these in stock. The shelf price is $128.99. But I did get a great price reduction from the clerk and you should try, too. The factory mail-in rebate ends on August 31 2003. The rebate is $70. And there are coupons for Office Depot internet purchases listed on DealCoupon.com. Some people have posted on DealMac.com that their total cost has been around $40.00. It is an okay monitor to use as a second display. I am on a Mac G4 with an ATI 9000 video card. But I would not buy this as a primary monitor. The refresh rate is not that high and the curved screen is hard on my eyes. I ended up returning this for a flat screen 17" KDS priced at $128.00. So there goes my "free" monitor!
But the KDS has a flat screen (virtual flat --not "real" flat like my Sony) and I can adjust the individual RGB guns. I could not get the AOC to calibrate correctly with my ICS monitor software and hardware. The KDS I was able to calibrate to get it close to the Sony. (I do color critical pre-press work.) Nevertheless, I still recommend the AOC for general use since the $70 rebate makes the price unbeatable.
