Cheap and it Works!

byseasar Jan 16, 2004
Pros Price, sound, picture
Cons Brand, see through speaker covers, door over TV controls
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Perfect if you want a projection HDTV, and don't want to spend $1500 for it. Not for rough handling, but the picture, sound, and features will exceed your expectations.
FYI - The picture is wrong - actual picture can be seen at http://www.apexdigitalinc.com/images/GB4308F.jpg

Two years ago we purchased this large entertainment center with hopes to fill the TV space with a larger TV. Little did we know how hard it would be to find a bigger TV that would fit. Then we came across this Apex TV and the measurements were a perfect fit. Oh, and you couldn't beat the price for this 43 inch projection HDTV. Before we purchased it we looked here on epinions and read the reviews of similar TV's of the same brand. We decided to go ahead and purchase the TV but only WITH the added cost of the in store warranty. Many of the reviews commented on the customer service of APEX, or lack of... Anyways we've had the TV for a month now and haven't had a single problem or glitch. We have the TV hooked up to our DVD, VCR, and Reciever. The picture looks great, especially with a digital picture. VHS and some Broadcast TV shows have a poorer picture - grainy/fuzzy. But once everything is all digital, there shouldn't be this problem. On the front of the TV is a little door that opens and it has TV controls underneath. I don't think this door will last long with even light use. And you can see right through the covers to the speakers and see a plastic grid. The remote is large and easy to use, though it doesn't have codes for our other equipment. Dennon DVD & Reciever, Sony VCR. Overall we are happy with our purchase as we feel it will get us through until the television format changes and the price of some of the LCD and plasma TV's come down in price. I gave it an Above average rating, because I know that there are better models available, but the amount of features on this TV do exceed my expectations for the price of the TV. When comparing the picture to the other projection TV's in store, this picture looked the same as the $1500 TV's. One last thing...When we were looking at the floor model it had an area on the bottom of the screen where the red and blue didn't line up, the salesman couldn't fix the problem either. His explanation was that the projections inside must be off or have gotten loose. Which with a cheaper brand of TV, this kind of stuff can happen easier. Our TV didn't have this problem, and ours is up inside an entertainment center, out of the reach of our children. There is no where to rearrange our furniture, so I don't plan on having to move the TV for many years.

Paid $699.00 - on sale, plus $170.00 for two year store warranty at Sears.
