Buying a Big screen is a chore. Apex made it easy.

Picture quality isn't the best with a basic cable connection.

The Bottom Line:
Best big screen for the price.
I like to think of myself of a pretty intelligent guy when it comes to buying electronics. I started looking at big screens about 2 months ago and realized there is a TON of stuff that you can consider. I decided that I didn't want to hassle with details. I looked at size, price, & quality. The rest of the options I left behind (I ended up with them anyway).
I went with the Apex 51" projection HDTV. I bought mine for $988 which was the cheapest big screen in stores. My first thought was that you can't go wrong with a 51" TV for less that $1000. I compared it to a few models in the showroom and the quality looked about the same as most of the other TVs in that price range ($1000-$1500).
DESIGN
The Apex has a sleek design. I had a big screen about 3 years ago (got hit by a power surge RIP) and it was bulky. It took up a lot of space and weighted about 300 pounds. The Apex has a sleek design and weighs in at about 155 pounds. Only 22 inches deep so it fits nicely on any wall. One drawback is that you cannot use the top of the TV as a shelf. I have my speakers from the home theater system on top... but one little nudge of the TV and they are going to fall. All the inputs on the back are easy to understand and easy to get to.
PICTURE QUALITY
I have a digital cable connection and the picture is about average for a big screen. I know the quality would improve if I splurged for the HDTV converter ($300-500 sold separately and needed for a true HD picture) and switched to a Dish the quality would improve. That is down the line a bit. There are three picture modes and they all look good. The TV has a duel tuner picture in picture... something I don't really use.
SOUND QUALITY
Most people who have big screens has a home theater system as well and I'm no different. If I didn't have the extra speakers this TV would still sound great. Nice sized speakers on the front of the base which gives out a really clear sound.
VALUE
I only paid $988. The next cheapest was $1198 and the picture quality could have been identical. That TV also had a boxy look. The Apex was the best value.
Overall I am satisfied with my purchase.
