Compact, yet fully featured

Pros Small footprint, full set of ports, optical drive, durable, lightweight, Wireless built-in
Cons Lack of future support for PPC, smaller harddrives, 1 RAM slot
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great Computer for the price.  Still fast enough to do most anything and will run 10.5 very nicely.
The 12" Powerbook G4 is an amazing computer.  Housed in Aluminum and featuring a 12" screen, the Powerbook weighs only 4.6lbs and comes with a built in optical drive, a full set of ports, 802.11g wireless and Bluetooth standard.  The 12" Powerbook still holds the record for the smallest footprint of any Apple laptop.  While the newer MacBook Air may be thinner and lighter, its much wider and doesn't have a full set of expansion ports and internal optical drive.  This makes the Powerbook the smallest full-featured notebook Apple has ever made.  Ranging from 867MHz to 1.5GHz, the Powerbook will run the latest version of 10.5 with ease no matter which model you choose.  All 12" Powerbooks also have at least 32mb of VRAM, Bluetooth 1.1, a Combo Drive, and will hold just over 1Gb of DDR RAM.  While later models come with up to 100Gb of hard drive space, the older models can come with as little as 40.  Unfortunately, all 12" Powerbooks only have 1 RAM expansion slot.  This makes the 867MHz model top out at 1.12Gb of RAM and all others max out at 1.25Gb.  It is also worth noting the 867MHz model does not have USB 2.0 ports, only the much slower 1.1.  The 12" Powerbook G4 makes an excellent travel computer.  Since it is still fully featured, I would not hesitate to make this my only Macintosh computer if I had to.  The ability to attach an external display, add FireWire devices, use multiple USB accesories, and read & write optical media makes the 12" Powerbook a compact powerhouse.  If you are looking for a compact Mac that is cheaper than the MacBook Air, or want a fully featured notebook that is also small, pick up a Powerbook G4 12"
