killer machine- Porsche Carrera S4 Turbo of laptops
Pros
wide, bright, sharp screen! auto dim feature. back-lit keyboard. intuitive operation. style, style, style!
Cons
airport reception poor. keys are "slippery". DVD drive is noisy.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
great machine!
I have had mine for a month or so, and it never ceases to amaze me. I especially love the backlit keys, cause I do a lot of work in the dark (poor sleeper due to back injury), and the auto dim feature of the screen- I didn't know it had that!
I look forward to burning my first DVD- as soon as I author one. I have watched a couple of movies on this computer- what a beautiful screen- the images are really great! and BRIGHT! I didn't know how dim my old PB was until I set them side by side. Love the extra width of the screen too. I was surprised at the noise of the DVD drive. A bit too loud. Not sure if they can make it any quieter though, since the case is so thin.
I moved up for a powerbook G3 500mhz with DVD/ROM. I haven't had much opportunity to use the added power of this new beauty, except for the video card. It makes everything move quite a bit faster!
The aluminum case is very nice. I understand it helps keep the insides cool too. Maybe it gets "hot", but I always set it on a pillow when using as a "laptop". I don't think it gets hatter than my old PB though.
I haven't had any problems with sound like a previous poster. sound is nice and clean. Fairly loud for a laptop with tiny speakers, I thought. I also can pump sound through powered 2.1 system using air-tunes, so that is a moot point for me.
