The Bottom Line:
An excellent addition to the Macbook line, but currently people may be better off getting the 13" pro.
The late 2008 Unibody Macbook packs a lot more punch than the previous black/white models that preceded the Unibody. Some new features in this model included an oversized glass track pad, an illuminated keyboard, a super crisp glass display, and an all new production method. The Macbook is made out of a single block of aluminum, making the laptop much stronger than the previous plastic models. The glass track pad is extremely oversized, since the button is integrated into the touch pad itself. The track pad also has a number of extremely useful multi-touch finger gestures. Finally, the computer also features a quick release bottom that makes changing the hard drive or battery a breeze. This machine finally fills the gap that was created when the 12" powerbook was discontinued. People can finally again choose a machine that includes features normally included in much higher end pro machines. Also, a 2MP camera makes video chatting a breeze. The multi-touch gestures are very unique. You have the ability to switch between applications, go back in Safari, rotate images, and much more.
Some things that this model is lacking are a firewire port. Pro users practically require this in order to upload video. Also, no SD card slot means that you have to have an external dongle. The computer itself also has only 2 USB ports, so a hub is a must. Early production units experienced some manufacturing defects such as a loose battery cover and slanted keys. These problems are fixed in later models but it shows that apples entire production process may be lacking.
