The MacBook Pro (Late 2008)

Pros Easy Navigation
MultiTouch TrackPad
Uni-body Design
MagSafe Power
iLife '08
Cons Limited USB Connection
FireWire 800 needs adapter for FireWire 400
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line: Very good and useful piece of equipment I can see myself using it for a long time until it needs to be replaced.
Outside: (8.5)
The MacBook Pro for 2008's design shows the advancement of design for modern laptops. It is housed in an aluminum uni-body case. This letsĀ it be much sturdier than the average plastic laptop made up to hundreds of parts. It feels like a reliable and solid machine.

Front: (8.0)

The front is very simple and plain, only additions are on the right side. The white light indicated sleep (blinking) and when the screen is off (static). Remote port, next to the indicator light allows for use of a remote that can be purchased separately.

Left Side: (7.5)
The side is cluttered at times, all ports are located on the left hand side. Power is attached to a MagSafe power port that allows for a stable but easily broken power connection. Which is nice if you're one to stumble over cables. It is then followed by a Gigabit Ethernet port, allowing for a quick and fast wired connection when available. The FireWire 800 allows for the fastest connection to external devices such as; hard drives, camcorders. Two USB 2.0 ports that allow for use of any USB device, given you have the driver. Mini DisplayPort, allowing the attachment of external monitor or projector. Audio in (Analog/Digital), for microphones or other equipment. Audio out (Analog/Digital), for headphones or optic mini cable. Express card port covered by a movable cover. I do like the fact all you need is incorporated to the side and it's a much more accessible side for me when on the go.

Right Side: (8.0)

The right side consists of a DVD drive and Kensington lock. The DVD drive is x8 which is nice for occasional burning. It can read any configuration of DVD R+/- or RW +/-, even dual layer. The Kensington lock slot allows for protection against theft.

Underside: (8.5)

The compartments for a battery and hard drive are easily located on the underside of the laptop. Allowing the replacement of the given battery and hard drive. Memory is also located here but I have the topped out 4 GB.

Inside: (9.0)

iSight camera allows for quick video or picture creation. With an array of options to cater to your needs. The screen display is 1440x900 wide-screen, it's a crisp glossy display. The backlight for the screen and keyboard are controlled easily on the fucntion keys located on the top row. The keyboard is a good clear QWERTY lay out. The large TrackPad allows for left/right clicks depending on the fingers used. It uses the same MultiTouch technology as the MacBook Air.

Start-up: (8.0)
When you first hit the power button it only takes seconds for the system to start up. Booting into an Apple loading screen. No glamor or fancy start music, just quick and reliable boot.

Overall: (9.0)
I enjoy my MacBook very much and feel it helps me in my school work. Letting me also be more productive when it comes to even surfing the web. I feel like the OS is made to be advance yet simple to starting users. The final view is the complete opposite what I thought it'd be my new favorite laptop is the MacBook Pro
