PowerMac 8600: An excellent computer
Pros
See my list in the body of my review.
Cons
50MHz board bus speed, but that's no real obstacle.
Recommended it?
Yes
We've had Macs here at home since 1990. All told, we've had over a dozen, and still have four or five here. This 8600 that I'm using as I write this is an excellent machine. It is seven years old and still performs solidly and runs virtually all the software that's available for Macs.
I bought this computer on eBay for $129 about two years ago. I notice now they can be had for under $100. Reasons for buying include its ability to take up to 1gig of memory, its multiple hard drive bays, its ability to accept faster processor cards, its PCI expansion slots, and its built-in A/V capability. We have a 500 MHz Sonnet G3 processor in this machine now, and it cruises.
This computer has been rock-solid in reliability and a good buy, particularly considering its original $2500+ price. I highly recommend it.
