Ode to My G3

Pros Power, speed, beauty, utility
Cons None. You don't need a floppy drive.
Recommended it? Yes
(Please note, I have the 350 mhz, 128 meg RAM, Zip Drive, CD-ROM G3)

I owned an Apple Performa 6290 for 2.5 years and I put it through its paces - adding memory alone (up to its whopping 64MB limit) earned me several gashes. It was slow and cranky. The Performa was, for me, the epitome of Apple Gone Wrong - a consumer machine that was swell, but not very consumer oriented. I needed a powerhouse.

After reading some reviews, I took a leap of faith and ordered the mid-range G3. I will never regret it. My G3 is a marvel of speed, performance, quality and overall kick-assness. The fold down door and arrangement of internal components alone is enough to make me weep with pride - it's so friendly! I bought and installed a 56k internal modem at the same time and it took about 10 minutes and worked perfectly.

The built in Zip Drive is responsive and non-buggy. The CD-ROM reads quickly. I have NEVER had any serious issues with the hard drive - compared to my poor Performa which freaked out and had to be rebuilt on a regular basis.

It's a gorgeous piece of design - far better than the IMacs - graceful, flowing and peaceful.

In February, I ordered DSL service and it works flawlessly with the G3. If anything, I actually notice improved performance overall.

Wonderful computer, well worth the money.
