Tales of a Mac Geek

Pros Reliability, Speed, Price, Capability, and smooth design too!
Cons not a thing
Recommended it? Yes
I was sat down in front of an Apple computer at around age 3. What can I say, I was a precocious child and my father was looking for a way to shut me up. Unfortunately for him, he only jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Since that fateful time I have explored computers of all types. I carry a degree in Computer Processing or some such from Florida Atlantic University, circa 1994 - which is essentially worthless now since the industry moves ahead so fast - due to my studies on various PC products. I have made my living off computer fields ever since I first entered the job market. I've even worked (through contracted sources) for Gateway Computer, Dell Computers and Lockheed Martin.

But no matter how much money I earned fixing PCs, I have never owned one. EVERY computer I have ever purchased for use in my own home has been an Apple. Starting with my first big purchase, with my own saved money, sometime in my teens, of a Performa 575, right up to my current G3 450 tower.

The simple reason is....I have never had to repair an Apple. While the PCs crashed a few times a day, and offered corruptions, unintelligible errors, and endless frustration, the Apple's offered ease of use, stability, and inspiration when working at a steady pace.

Currently, my profession is Graphic design...I work surrounded by G3's, G4's and a few hold overs like the 9600. They communicate wonderfully with industry standard RIPs, and run the memory hogging graphics programs I rely on with ease, speed and reliability - even while I am multitasking in multiple programs (ie. photoshop5.5, illustrator 9, quark 4.5, etc etc). I have to reboot the machine maybe once a week because of hanging or crashing. Pretty remarkable for a consumer machine with a GUI OS.

I am currently looking at portable units - and you can bet it will be an Apple of some sort. I am trying to justify the raw power of a PowerBook, but logically I think the iBook would suit me better.

Either way, my G3 has only strengthened my trust in the Apple Computers company. It is a better, faster machine that allows me to get more work done. More work done means more money in my bank. I can't think of a single reason anyone wouldn't love that.
