When things go Cube...

Pros Awesome design, hi power G4 @ 450 MHz;
Cons Not worthing it's cost; Very expencine; Monitor not included
Recommended it? No
When i first show some pictures of this machine, I said Great! Apple managed to fit all in a small Cubic case; Awesome! a Powerful G4 with the look and feel of MacOS X! This is Amazing!
I was feeling kind of sad also, cause I am a PC User, and I couldn't have the pleasure to get one of those in my hands! I am a designer and -as you may assumed-I wanted desperately to have a close look to a Power Macintosh G4 Cube. I wanted it BAD!

Lucky me, a friend of mine who runs a Design Business, working only with Macs, told me that he would order a G4 Cube in a couple of days. So I told him, I'd like to see it, and all above about my opinion for G4 Cube.

Well, my closer look had to be -almost- the end of my enthusiasm.
To be more specific, let's take it from scratch.

Power Macintosh G4 Cube, has a G4 450 MHz CPU, 64 MB RAM, 20 GB HDD, DVD-ROM.
Well, G4 @ 450MHz it's very fast -note for PC users: Consider like PIII @ 1 GHz- I was astonished by the speed. All runs in no time.
For sure -consider this Computer have been used for Graphic Desing and Multimedia proposes- the 64 MB RAM is less that it deserves, for now days.

Where is the DVD ROM? First slot as you looking. It's has not special port to input the CD; just like Car Audio Systems. Very practical.

Where all Peripheral's connecting cables are? The base of the G4 Cube has a space about 2"; back face has a patch for passing through all the cable up to the base; where are all connection cable slots. This is very nice; cables can be noteless.

Power Macintosh G4 Cube, has not monitor included. You have to buy one.

Power Macintosh G4 Cube, has not a Floppy Disk Drive. Well, this reminds me SONY VAIO laptop. Hot having a Floppy, means you have to buy -consider probably you will need one sometime- an external USB Floppy. That's extra money.

Power Macintosh G4 Cube, has not ANY OTHER else, connection option for other devices, EXCEPT USB.

Generally, I was disappointed about G4 Cube. Speed and Performance is not an issue, but money. When you spend about $2000, in newcomer cutting-edge feature machine, you want more.

Not just a nice nicknack for your office, able to manage some of your work.

Thank God I didn't paid for this.
