pwr mac g4 dual 1ghz tower
Pros
fast, easy setup compatible with pc formats easy to upgrade
Cons
not the quietest machine dvd-rw could be faster wish they included a scrolling mouse
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
An excellent machine for the designer and previous pc user. Incredible upgrade potential so it won't be obsolete for a while. Easy to use right from the box.
I'm a pc person and my wife is a designer, and has always used mac's. Although the operating systems were usually more stable than a pc, I was always frustrated by the length of time it took to process, from startup to printing......not with this machine!
Finally Apple got it right. It's a joy to work with, the speed is incredible and as quick as anything i have in pc format, and with osx v2, it's even more compatible and stable. I added a 512Mb chip of ram, make sure you get the ddr pc2700 dimm, I went online to ramjet.com and got a great price. I'm going to add another cdrw, faster than the one that came with the machine, it's slow because it's a dvd burner as well, but you can get a 52x24x52 for under 150dlrs. With the 17in studio monitor (reduced by 300dlrs)this system is unbelievable. This also flys through applications such as quark, illustrator and photoshop;
apple does give you an optical mouse but it's not scrolling which is a drag....I've replaced it with a cordless scroller.
Of course my biggest beef is that apple gives you such a short support period, 90 days call in...that's it..still object to that. But then again you never have to use it as you do on a windows based machine. I suspect that I'll probably get an extended warranty on it at the 11th month.
