Mac Me
Pros
Easy upgrade access, impresses friends, quick, stable, and neat
Cons
Turbo fan mode is frightening, c'mon 256 MB of RAM?!?, and no SCSI interface
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Apple has come a long way to win me over from OS9 and icky G3s. The Quadra 840AV and OS8.51 still rocks.
First impressions exults ease of use. BSD and Solaris should be this easy. Keep in mind, this is still a UNIX box and tinkering around without the man pages can still be intimidating if one doesn't know what they're doing. Thank goodness for the efficient TCP/IP implementation or else I'd still be a Wintel surfer.
It's been over 6 months now and I still love this box. The first upgrade I'm recommending for anyone considering using this box is getting more RAM. 256 MB becomes increasingly difficult to get anything done in a very short period of time. Installing a hard drive is a snap with common household Phillips screwdriver.
Applications fly, Internet use zip, and games beg to be maxed out in full resolution except Warcraft III in OSX but in Classic mode gameplay runs smooth.
Upgrade paths maybe a bit disconcerting when nVidia offers no support. Why do product managers do such odd things?
The really cool thing is when guy friends come over and drool. Don't try to impress girls with it. That's just too geeky.
