People always seem to love Macs. For the most part, they're more user-friendly to those of us who aren't techno-wizards, they require fewer steps to do the same tasks as PCs (in less time too), and they certainly look a whole lot prettier. But, of course, you're paying for every bonus you get. My Powerbook G3--bronze edition 400Mhz-- cost me a staggering four thousand dollars! At the time I bought it, it was the slimmest, it was by far the fastest, and it was the easiest to use. For me, naturally. Don't get me wrong, I adore Macintoshes. I've had a lot of experience managing, working on, and building PC's, and I think they definitely have their strengths also, but, for the better part of the American population, I think Macintoshes are far simpler to use. If you're considering a Powerbook G3, I would recommend keeping in mind your needs. Do you need the extra 100 Mhz speed? Can you tell the difference that 100 Mhz makes? Is it worth the extra $1000? Do you need your laptop to be super-light weight? Do you want a large screen? Do you want a trackpad instead of a mouse? Do you want a piece of machinery that is sturdy and reliable. If you're still convinced that a Powerbook G3 has what you want, look at the price again. Looking back on my purchase of this G3, with a DVD player, a 10 gig hard drive, and a 400 Mhz processor, I couldn't be happier. I've had very few problems, and the ones I did have, were all simple to fix. Every time I turn on the computer, however, or even look at the computer sitting on my desk, I'm reminded of its powerful price tag. Its scary that a piece of machinery so small can cost so much. But, any way you slice it, a computer is going to fetch some hefty green, so you might as well get what you're looking for. The screen on this Powerbook is huge for such a small computer, and the processor speed is noticeably faster than many others I've seen. The keys are quiet (a big bonus for long trips or when you're traveling with other people around), and the software compatibility with PC's is on the rise. These days, with more and more new software titles on the market, mostly for PC's, that's an important feature. So, just remember, what are you looking for, what are you willing to pay for what you need, what are you willing to pay for a little extra?
If the price is manageable, I highly recommend a Powerbook G3. Like most Apple products, it's well built, easy to use, and PC compatible: a truly great buy!
