The Bottom Line:
Apple has always been a leader in notebooks. They're still on top as far as I'm concerned. Bravo Apple!
I have owned many PowerBooks, starting with a 180c and year after year, Apple has had the most powerful and stylish notebook computers on the market. To date, the battery life has gotten better, the displays are brighter, and there's a ton of "cooler than that PC laptop ya got there" features. Illuminated keyboard, automatic brightness control, Firewire, er IEE1394, built in. My favorite thing is the slot loading CD drives. (since the TiBook series). Recently, my dogs decided that my wife's PC laptop no longer needed the CD tray and proceeded to rip it from it's hinges. This will never happen to my PowerBook. The OS is solid and by far my favorite, but this is a hardware review. After long uses, it does start to heat up a bit. Actually it gets downright HOT. When the fan does kick in, it is kinda loud. The speakers, while louder than the last generation, are still not quite loud enough. Bass response stinks, but what do you want from the teeny drivers crammed into either side of the keyboard. There is no right mouse button and no dedicated scroll keys, but most laptops, with their condensed keyboards, also lack these features. Over all, I love my new PowerBook. Apple did it again. I hope they can keep it up.
