The best laptop yet

Pros Backlit keyboard great screen wonderful software
Cons so-so battery life
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Very solid package all around rugged and easy to use worth the extra money over a PC. Because the iLife software is outstanding.
The G4 powerbook series to the computing industry by storm when the Titanium Powerbook was released. Now Apple does it a again with the new aluminum Powerbook. Referred to as the AlBook, this long awaited upgrade to the Powerbook line is a winner.
First, the basics: 1.25 ghz G4 processor, 80gb hardrive, and a DVD burner all in a very lightweight package. The look and feel of the laptop is one of organic simplicity. It does not look manufactured so much as grown. The edges are smooth and rounded and the seams are well hidden. This gives the feeling of solidity. The screen is is a beautiful 15.2 inches diagonal and is quite bright. The resolution is 1280x854 which is about as small as you would want text to get. The laser etched keys have a fiber optic backlight for working in areas with low ambient light. Blue tooth is also included, but the best thing of all is the super drive.
Yes lets talk about the super drive, Here it is in a nutshell, the windows users have the same drive in their laptops, but the integration with the whole product is lousy. The software is poorly thought out and buggy. Compare that with the iLife series of software that is included for free when you buy the machine. The idvd software is a snap to use and gives results that you are proud to show you aunts and uncles. Music, moving graphics are all at your disposal with a very shallow learning curve. You see, this computer is a complete being, not a hodge-podge of components and software from a host of manufacturers. The end result has been 6 months, 1 crash try that stat on the windows side. I will continue to report on my laptop both good and bad in the weeks. Till then good nite....
