"Squeek Squeek," Said the Optical Mouse

Pros Optical sensor rather than a track ball, beautiful looking, fits easily into one's hand
Cons Looking at the optic beam hurts one's eyes :)
Recommended it? Yes
Good-bye hockey puck mouse, hello optical. After the huge uproar about Apple's older mouse, which came on all the iMacs and G3s, Apple decided to toss it out faster than a Randy Johnson fast ball. Now, standard on every Macintosh computer, comes the sweet, sweet Apple Pro Mouse. Not only did the size improve to fit your whole hand, but it went from messy track ball to always clean optical tracking beam.

Ok, first of all, this mouse fits cleanly into your hands. No more fumbling around with the hockey puck, trying to keep it from falling out of your grasp. When I first came upon one of the new iMacs, I started to play around, looking at the new features. Then, it struck me. I looked at the mouse and saw a normal sized mouse! Yay indeed! The next thing that slapped me in the face is that there is no mouse button. But in fact, the whole darned thing is a button. The "clicker(sorry, I don't know a more technical term)" is actually on the bottom of the mouse, so when you push down on the top, it pushes the bottom part down too, so you then get your click. You may "fine tune" your clicks with the tension adjuster. Have a heavy hand? Adjust the tension to the tightest so that you aren't always clicking when you don't want to, and vice versa for light handed folk.

Easily the coolest thing about the new Pro Mouse is that it features an optical tracking device instead of a bothersome track ball. This means that the insides of the mouse never have to be cleaned! The sensor is much more accurate than the ball. On the sides of the mouse are handle areas so when you have clicked, and need to lift the mouse up for a reason, you may put pressure upson these areas and the mouse will stay clicked. With the smooth riding optical sensor, there is never any need for a mouse pad, or any other kind of area needed to roll the mouse, like in a track ball mouse. It smoothly glides over any surface, and I do mean any!

The mouse is just absolutely gorgeous! Usually one will never say such a statement. But it's true, it's true. The whole mouse(except the bottom) is a clear plastic so you can see the insides; all the circuitry and gadgetry. Even painted inside is a fancy little Apple. The mouse is quite asthetically pleasing.

This little guy does it all. S/He looks good and s/he gets the job done, and done very well I might add. If you don't have one now, I highly suggest purchasing one. I am quite sure you will be pleased with its performance.
