APPLE ? I'LL HAVE ANOTHER ONE!
Pros
Less expensive of all the Mac desktops. Reliability and up to now, crash and virus-proof.
Cons
A bit too heavy. I'd like the power button on the front.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A LOWER PRICED BUT NOT LOWER END DESKTOP - GO EMAC. IT HAS ALL THE SOLID ROCK RELIABILITY ONE HAS COME TO EXPECT FROM APPLE.
Last December I went and made the "SWITCH" - I left the dangers of Microsoft and went for the sweet, sweet, experience of the Apple Ibook - Generation 4.
I FELL IN LOVE! Then, I figured, hey if this little beauty provokes so many comments, turns heads at restaurants and coffee houses, and is such a blessing to my sanity and my family's - why not do it again. Except BIGGER !
And, so I did. In May, I bought the eMAC G4. Oh ecstasy! You get the feeling it's Gibraltar somehow. Rock solid, eternal, stable, reliable and forever standing guard over your Web experiences.
I don't know why, but it seems the eMac takes a tad bit longer than the wintel pc I have (with a sheet over it's head). Yet, with a Mac, somewhat, it seems one is never in a hurry. Just totally relaxing and being productive.
THE SCREEN IS MAGNIFICENTLY BEAUTIFUL - best thing for the images and graphics ever devised. The snow white casing is slick, glossy, and also gives the impression of cleanliness.
THERE IS NO TOWER - everything you need is fitted right in the eMac - screen and disk drive (in my case the Super Drive for both reading and burning Dvd's, Cd's.)
THE ONLY DOWN SIZE, I would say is that it is almost 50 lbs. in weight and the power button is a bit far for my personal outreach. To the right rear and in back of where the ports and other sockets are placed, in my tight hutch it gets a little hard to see and power off and on. I remedied this by putting a little sticker on the power button so I just have to feel until I get to it.
THE PRE-INSTALLED SOFTWARE is quite numerous. Yet, it is the practicality and usefulness of top flight software which adds even more value to the eMac (and any other Mac for that matter).
I have had very little to do as yet with any tech support - from set up (approximately 7 minutes out of box) to simple registration - tech support is excellent. Unfortunately our Epinions drop down box on tech support is not accurately reflecting what I selected.
Unless you're a masochist, get as far as possible from the Microsoft product line and especially the new Longhorn monster coming out - Big Brother is still watching.
Stay with a product such as Apple which has the old time mind set that the customer's comfort, convenience, and pleasure is really quite profitable for a company. If you haven't thought of "switching" , please do.
