Easy-to-use laptop
Pros
Pretty, Simple-to-use, no networking problems. Best battery life I've seen in a notebook
Cons
Getting used to a different OS, the pretty look does show of scratching a little.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I'd recommend the G4 iBook to anyone looking for a first-time laptop. It isn't a workhorse for high end programs, but is very simple and fun to use.
After looking for a laptop that could be used for a replacement desktop we settled on the Apple iBook. It had the power to run our everyday program, and also gave us an opportunity to experiment with an OS that we'd never tried before.
The laptop is amazing to look at, like most Apple products. I don't have a problem leaving it out for people to see, it isn't ugly like most other computers. It was simple to setup, and the internal antenna found my wireless network right away. It included a introduction to Mac OSX and links to the website that answered any questions we had.
The keyboard feels nice, not to loud but has some resistance so I know I've hit a key. the screen is bright and has a range of adjustment for when you are sitting in different parts of the house. The sound isn't great, but does get loud enough to fill a room. I won't review the operating system, but it is simple to use and pretty to look at. It is fast enough to run every program I've tried, iDVD, iTunes, imovie and some different children's games. Photoshop runs on the laptop, but can slow down a bit, you would probably need more ram for it to run smoothly.
The laptop does get very warm, I'd recommend some sore of stand to get a little more airflow.
One final hint when buying. Changing anything (adding RAM, large Hard Drives, etc.) seems to increase the ship time alot. I'd recommend adding your own RAM after you have the laptop, it will save a ton of money and speed things up.
