How Cool is That?

Pros Great design, reliability, ease of use
Cons Heavier than 12-inch model, only have 256 MB RAM
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Go get yourself one of this iBook or the 12-inch ones that is lighter and more portable.
This bigger iBook is great for almost every person. Exceptional quality blends with a design that only "cool" can describe. When the iBook arrived, I pulled it out of the shipping carton. Then I immediately noticed the white package that housed the iBook.

The iBook comes with the followings:

- AC adapter, which comes in two parts. You can use only a cooler looking and smaller part but the distance is shorter. If you combine the two parts together, it becomes an adapter that resembles most other laptop AC adapter, only it is in white color.

- Monitor adapter, which is needed if you want to connect the iBook to an external monitor, for presentations and etc. However, I was able to use the FireWire 1394 port to connect my iBook to my work projector (provide the projector has such a thing).

- Modem cord, also in white.

- CDs, a lot of CDs, including restore CDs as well as OS X 10.2.1 Jaguar operating system CDs.

- Of course, there is the iBook!

The version of the iBook I got is M8862LL/A. It houses a 800 MHz G3 with 256 MB RAM. After 15 minutes of unpacking and inspecting. I powered up the iBook. To my surprise, it starts in only a few seconds. The first-time set up took me about 30 minutes and I was in business. The iBook functions beautifully in all aspects. Internet browsing is fast, the mail program bundled with OSX is easy to use; however, I doesn't let you sign and attach a digital certificate however. I have ordered more RAM to because 256 MB is not enough to run many graphic intensive applications like Adobe Photoshop or InDesign smoothly.

The 14 inch iBook is heavier than its 12 inch brother, but it is still manageable. If you bought the Brenthaven case that was especially design for the iBook ($80) than everything is in perfect order. The impact resistance iBook is perfect for everyday on the road use. Also, there is that coolness factor.

Everything seem so.... heavenly. However, the white keyboard and the trackpad gets a little dirty. I have to clean it frequently so I could maintain that heavenly look. Someone asked me if Apple products are really better or just some marketing hype. My answer is "BOTH!"
